Learn to Sail

Sailing is fun and adventurous, given the right skills and a sea worthy sailboat, the bays, waterways and the ocean transform into your personal highways and back country roads leading you to new places you can only imagine.  I'm the owner of a 34' sailboat. My cruising grounds stretch thousands of miles from Maine to the Florida Keys. The Bahamas and now the west coast of Florida. Tarpon Springs is her new home, With a Master Captains' License and over thirty years experience, I Have many sailing adventures and acquired the skills to handle sailboats anywhere and on any ocean . I'd like to share these skills and pass them on to you.

Like most people, you may feel that sailing is a lot of work and complicated. It's not. I have taught several people the skills needed to handle sailboats of all sizes. Whether your thinking  about buying your own or wanting  to charter a sailboat for your next vacation. I can help.

At each sailing, you will handle all off shore sailing operations to include reaching, running, coming about, gybing and hoving-to. You'll learn to prepare for fog and foul weather. Setting storm sails as well as all other sail changes.

Learn the proper usage of modern offshore electronic navigation equipment as well as non-electric navigation procedures (dead reckoning ) and taking bearings of lights and land formations to determine your location.

In the Gulf of Mexico, your navigation plans will incorporate currents, tides, dead reckoning, weather data, radar, GPS, running fixes and electric charting. In the gulf the waters are shallow and tides run 3-6'. Keeping your boat from running aground can be a challenge in it's self.

Our sailings are both fun and practical. The sea time aboard can be used as credit  toward your USCC Captain's License should you decide to apply for it.
